Untitled Poem by Amy Tyson
I stand at the center
The universe is infinite -
It follows me
Imprints of elastic, molded flesh from tight underwear
"Someday I'm gonna buy a whole new dresser full"
Split-ends and blackheads and sweat beneath the breasts,
that's what little girls are made of.
Laying down, looking at the perfect view of the sky -
glow in the dark stars,
inaccurate constellations of glittered drywall.
I am in a room, separate from the universe.
But still followed by it.
Legs on plastic shower walls.
razor razor scrape scrape summer summer
Blood on the towel - dry off - where's the cut?
Heat lamp sun above me. Never eclipses: I have control its dawn
and dusk:
How many days has my toilet seat seen that I have not? (In toilet
time, that is.)
I am standing at the center.
My universe - not infinite
I follow it.
We chase.
