(Not) Living in the City of Sin by Christy Tobin
Going Home
So we're all blessed with this wonderful time of year in which we renew
promises to ourselves to make our lives easier and better. I'm not one
for New Year's resolutions. However, I was trapped this year by my mother
who made prey of myself and my two sisters at the dinner table. Did she
want some miracle answer, some revolutionary miracle? I really don't have
one for her. Unfortunately, I'm content with my life except for the chaos
and hustle and bustle. I hope to slow down just a bit.
I'm 21 now and going home has changed. My family is getting older and the
constant probing questions have now come to a trickle. My parents have
allowed me freedoms of idea and thought, but I still feel out of sync with
my family. I guess growing up changes us all.
What kind of answer are we looking for in our resolutions? Each new day
should be a world of opportunity to change our lives.
My wish is for everyone to come to a peace in their life, be comfortable
and experience. As for my mom's probe...I'm not getting married, or
having grandchildren, nor am I worried.

Little kids emphasize the "my" in "my mom" while adults emphasize "mom".
Increase or decrease in the respect level?
Religion is not synonymous with goodness in a person. The Bible and
religion are so obviously man-made when time passing exposes political and
social and humane incorrectness. There seems to be a psychological need
in people to believe in a protective, wiser force. Religion explains
everything we don't understand or haven't figured out yet. We're willing
to except change over time, but think we have the truth in today. Religion
has caused a tremendous lot of inter-human strife.
