Living in the City of Sin Cultured or Uncultured (The Strip) by Christy
Tobin
It's all about what you make of it. (A continuation of a story from issue
1)
I've only lived here a little over 3 years, but I constantly hear those
around me saying, 'this is the most uncultured place I've ever lived in.'
On the other hand, I regularly hear people say, 'I love living here.'
These messages are confusing me greatly. I come from a rural area on the
east coast, very historic and monumental. I partially came here to
experience a young, vibrant metropolitan. Vegas was quite different from
what I expected. However, there are many things here I couldn't get
anywhere else.
Las Vegas is a place to find cities from around the world. Currently
under construction are mega-resorts offering replicas of Paris and Venice.
The New York sky-line and the pyramids of Egypt already glitter in our
sky. There are a great many hidden wonders to be found in this city of
sin. The Manhattan street life scene entertains us. While, the Mirage
encompasses natural wonders such as volcanoes and a dolphin habitat to
show us the scientific aspects of the world. The art world is expanding
with the elaborate architectural mastery of the new Caesar's addition and
the wonders of the Botanical Gardens. Picasso's art pieces will be
involved in the interior design of Bellagio. There are also several
galleries around town which display national and local art.
It's difficult to pick out all these experiences, but we are the city for
live entertainment. We have Broadway style shows (Mystere), the circus
(Siegfriend and Roy) is in town practically every night, sports is up and
coming at present time (Thunder Hockey), tournaments (sports and gaming
alike are constantly around, and the singers and comedians eat up our
audience. There is always something going on in this town, day or night,
week after week.
There is not another place in the world where you can get up close and
personal with these wonders and great places. We aren't the real thing,
but for people who have never been these places at least it gives us an
impression. There is a great deal to be learned and observed here. We
should try and enjoy the treasures we have, take advantage of what can be
experienced in the city of sin.
Smart ReMarx by Andy Marx and Christy Tobin
1 People don't think or act like you.
2 Don't jump to conclusions.
3 Everyone has different priorities.
4 Everybody else has problems (earth shaking, world shattering problems)
that doesn't make you feel any better about your own.
5 People will complain about anything.
6. Things do not always need to go according to plan.
7 A change might do you good, but it just as easily might not.
8 Respecting others right to an opinion doesn't mean you have to agree
with them.
9 If you want people to like you, then act like it.
10 And don't be surprised when they don't.
